Site Statistics for 2008

Here are my site stats for the previous year. Any feedback around whether this is particularly good or not for the first year of a tech info site would be very appreciated. This site had a little less that 6,000 absolutely unique visitors during 2008 and about 10,850 page views. Average page views in a visit was 1.42 which means my bounce rate was pretty high.

54% of visitors used some version of Firefox—only 33% of visitors used Internet Explorer.

78% of my visitors came to the site using a search engine and 99% of them came from Google.

My Top 5 Pages (which surprised me because I write mostly about non-IIS stuff) for the year were:

  1. Disabling the Trace Method in IIS (posted July 29, 2008)
  2. Connecting IIS with Tomcat using isapi_redirect (posted September 5, 2008)
  3. Securing SSL in Tomcat - Part Two - Disabling Weak Ciphers (posted September 24, 2008)
  4. JBoss: Changing Default Port Numbers (posted October 20, 2008)
  5. Tomcat 6 Access Logging (posted August 12, 2008)

56% of visitors visit this site from work globally (68% if you visit from the United States).

Switching to a custom domain (blog.techstacks.com) killed my BlogCatalog ranking; under the previous allsortsandnotions.blogspot.com name, this site got a rank as high as 55.5 out of 100. Switching to the custom domain resulted in a drop in rank to, as of the time of this writing, 33.3 out of 100. So, beware anyone contemplating a switch to a custom domain after running a site for a year using a blogspot domain name. I'll have to see what the new year brings and see where I sit in December '09.
